L’International Artists’ Museum include artisti di Israele e di tutto il mondo che si sono incontrati per unire
i loro progetti artistici e per dar vita a mostre i cui temi si possano connettere. Il progetto «Markers»
(significa segni) é la creazione di Doran Polak, un artista israeliano che per caso ha incontrato in Polonia il
poeta veneziano John Jian Pozzi. Loro due insieme hanno realizzato questo progetto all’inizio del 2001. Il titolo
«Markers» accenna alla possibilitá per ogni artista di lasciare il suo segno nel nuovo millennio.
Le mostre precedenti hanno incluso arte visiva in spazi esterni e poesia concettuale, installazioni lungo le rive del
Canal Grande, in tende esterne e presentazioni di libri d’artista. Il progetto itinerante é stato esposto con
successo a Venezia, a New York, a Berlino, presso l’Edinburgh Festival, presso la Biennale di Lodz in Polonia, nel Texas
e altre localitá.
Quest’anno, l’ottavo e ultimo progetto, si é messo in moto. E’ curato dagli israeliani Doron Polak e Amir Cohen e
si aprirá il 1 giugno 2011, la giornata di opening della Biennale Arti Visive di Venezia nella Galleria Artlife for
the world tra il ponte di Rialto e il Campo Santa Maria Nova. La mostra di quest’anno includerà "solo" 66 artisti – un terzo
dei quali vengono da Israele. La mostra «Markers» include degli artisti rinomati nel mondo come Sol LeWitt, Dani
Karavan, Dennis Oppenheim, Nancy Spero, Jack Sal, Yechiel Shemi, etc. In aggiunta agli artisti internazionali, quest’anno
parteciperanno anche un buon numero di artisti della "vecchia scuola" come Joshua Neustein, Yaakov Hefetz, Margalit Mannor
insieme con alcuni giovani artisti non ancora noti.
Il titolo "Mapping" di solito richiama il tema della cartografia, la stesura delle mappe o ricorda il termine matematico che
si riferisce alle funzioni. La mappa é l’insieme degli accordi tra i simboli che descrivono le idee, una piatta e
schematicamente ridotta descrizione della superficie della terra. Nel passato la stesura delle mappe era considerata come un’arte
segreta riservata a specialisti. Il termine in matematica denota una funzione che accoppia una variabile di un gruppo con un’altra
variabile di altro gruppo. Le mappe esistono anche in altri campi molto diversi, le mappe anatomiche, mappe dei termini etc.
Gli artisti partecipanti a questa mostra hanno fatto la mappa della loro esperienza personale e sociale, storie della loro vita e
della cultura alla quale appartengono.
Il catalogo riassuntivo delle tappe diverse del progetto Markers-Mapping (2001-2011) verrá pubblicato in seguito e conterrá
anche le opere dalla mostra attuale.

The International Artists’ Museum includes artists from Israel and around the world who come together for joint
artistic projects and create exhibitions whose themes connect everyone. The "Markers" (i.e. signs) Project is the
joint brainchild of Doron Polak - an Israeli artist who accidentally met up in Poland with the Venice poet John
Jian Pozzi and together they dreamed up a project to bring together artists from around the world at the dawn of
the new millennium in 2001. The title "Markers" hints at the possibility for each artist to leave his or her mark
on the new millennium. Past exhibitions have included outdoor visual art and poetry, art on poles along the grand
canal, on tents as outdoor installation, art relate to electric poles and artist books.
The project has been successfully shown in Venice and traveled to New York, Berlin, the Edinburgh Festival, the Lodz
Biennale in Poland, Texas, and more.
This year, the eight and last project in the series is underway. Doron Polak and Amir Cohen from Israel will curate it.
It will open on the 1st of June, the opening day of the Venice Biennale, in the ArtLife for the worked gallery near the
Rialto Bridge in Venice. This years exhibition will include "only" 66 artists - about a third of them from Israel.
Markers exhibitions have included world renowned artists such as Sol LeWitt, Dani Karavan, Dennis Oppenheim, Nancy Spero,
Jack Sal, Yechiel Shemi, etc. In addition to the international artists participating this year, a number of "old school"
artists are taking part, such as Joshua Neustein, Yaakov Hefetz, Margalit Mannor as well as young and unknown artists.
The title "Mapping" deals with a topic usually associated with cartography - creating maps, or the term from mathematics that deals
with functions. The map is a compilation of agreed upon symbols that describe ideas - a flat and schematically small description of
the surface of the Earth. In the past, map making was thought of as a secretive art carried out by specialists.
The term in mathematics denotes a function that pairs a variable from one group with a variable in another group. It describes the
dependency of variables, a borrowed characterization in the fields of science or economics. Maps also exist in different fields - anatomy
maps, maps of terms, etc.
The artists participating in this exhibition have mapped their personal or social experiences - stories from their lives and culture
to which they belong.
A book summarizing the different stages of the Markers Project (2001 - 2011) will be published and will also contain the art works of
the current exhibition.
